What is axial Spa?Axial spondyloarthritis (axial SpA) is a long-term inflammatory form of arthritis that mainly affects the spine and joints. It can cause pain, stiffness and fatigue, although the symptoms and their impact can vary considerably from person to person.
I have lived with axial SpA for more than 30 years. Through sharing my own experiences, I hope to help raise awareness of this often invisible condition and show that, despite the challenges it can bring, it is still possible to live a full, active and rewarding life.
What is Hitting AS for Six about?Hitting As for Six is my personal story of living with axial SpA for more than 30 years, told against the backdrop of my lifelong passion for cricket and sport.
It explores the highs and lows of playing sport while managing a chronic illness, alongside friendship, family, coaching, mental health and wellbeing. Above all, it is a story of hope, determination, resilience and the importance of never giving up on the things you love.
Is Hitting As for Six a true story?Yes. Hitting AS for Six is a true and deeply personal account of my life and experiences.
I write openly about the challenges of living and playing cricket with axial SpA, including many of the struggles that people around me never saw. The book also celebrates the friendships, memorable sporting moments and people who have supported me throughout my journey.
Who is Hitting AS for Six for?You certainly don’t need to have axial SpA, or even understand cricket, to enjoy this book!
